How many times have you cooked something on your stove and then, a moment later someone said, "why is it so hot here?", then it appeared that you forgot to turn off the stove.
Handle that kind of incidents is easy, just turn it off. I will not go on further, instead I will write about how to prevent such situations Forgetting to turning off the cooking is one of the most usual mistakes but also one of the most dangerous, the insurance companies will probably not pay you the full value of all you property that you lost because they can't care for your own "stupid" mistakes, therefore it is very wise to prevent such occurrences to happen. Before you buy a stove, ensure that it got a timer as a built in feature and that it automatically turns off the plate when the food is ready. Such stoves may cost you a bit more but now you are very secured from having your house burnt down to the ground because of the stove and if it actually happens then just blame the stove and your insurance company will most likely pay you much more than they would do otherwise. Also, enjoy the luxury from the modern stove. But if you can't afford such stove then you can still do something about it. Buy a new alarm and put it right over the stove. Change the preferences so it will not react on higher temperatures than necessary, do that just because it won’t go on when cooking something on the plate accurately. Try to see how it is going to work in reality, put the stove on very high temperatures and wait. If it works then celebrate or something, now you are safe from doing that mistake over and over again. If it doesn't work then throw a boil of water on the fire and the plate to extinguish it. Change the preferences and try again. Or buy Stove Guard or SafeStove. Another good alternative is to remove any flammable materials over and around the stove and replace it with fireproof replacements. If your stove is close to the wall, then put a layer of antiflammable wallpaper there. |

I bought a SafeStove unit for my grandmother when it was first released. Last month, when I went over to visit, she told me about how she had taken a nap and forgotten the stove on with her soup on the element. She woke up two hours later and the stove had turned itself off before the soup had boiled away or worse, filled the apartment with smoke.
I'm impressed with the unit, overall. |

Just to give you an update. The SafeStove® products are now available only at First Home Safety Corp. They have an office in Florida and another one in Ottawa, ON. The original website has been moved to http://www.firsthomesafety.com and you can get RSS news on the products at http://www.safestove.us
The new version of SafeStove includes a new remote switch with three buttons, and a smoke alarm detector that controls the stove and powers it off if smoke is detected. An additional feature is the detector's battery: when the battery is low, the stove stays off. Therefore, you have to put a fresh battery in the smoke detector if you want to eat. That's complete safety in the kitchen. The links again: http://www.firsthomesafety.com http://www.safestove.us |
